Breville's espresso machines regularly appear as "remanufactured" for well under list price. Is that a smart buy or a gamble? The answer depends mostly on the warranty and who's selling it. Here's what Breville itself says, without the hype.

The short version
  • Buy remanufactured from Breville's own store if the savings matter and you can live with a shorter warranty and possible cosmetic marks.
  • Buy new if you want the full new-product warranty, plan to keep it for many years, or want it in perfect condition as a gift.
  • Avoid "refurbished" listings from unknown sellers with no clear warranty.

What "Certified Remanufactured" means at Breville

Breville runs a US remanufactured store. It says these are products returned by retailers, some of which may have been used by a customer and only some of which were returned for a technical fault. Before resale, Breville says every unit is:

Cleaned

Fully cleaned, with food-contact parts sanitized.

Tested

Defective components are replaced with original Breville parts.

Inspected

Checked against Breville quality assurance standards.

Repackaged

Shipped in a new box with the "Certified Remanufactured" logo.

Breville also says units are 100% functional to factory spec but may have minor cosmetic flaws such as scratches or discoloration.

With refurbished gear, you're really buying the warranty and the seller. The discount comes second.

The warranty trade-off

Breville's remanufactured warranty document gives six months of limited coverage from the date of purchase. Within that window, Breville will replace the product or have it repaired by an authorized service agent. You need proof of purchase showing the model number, payment and date. New products are covered by Breville's standard limited warranty, which runs longer. Check Breville's warranty page for your model's term.

Espresso machines combine heat, pressure and water, so early faults tend to show up early. Six months is meaningful coverage, but it is shorter. Use the machine daily from day one so any problems surface while you're still covered.

How the savings compare

When we checked Breville's US remanufactured store on Oct 14, 2026, these machines were listed below their new list prices:

ModelNew list priceRemanufactured listing (Oct 14, 2026)
Bambino$299.95$199.95
Bambino Plus$499.95$334.95
Barista Express$699.95$468.95
Barista Pro$849.95$569.95

This is a snapshot from a single day, not a price history. Remanufactured stock and prices change often. New list prices come from breville.com.

That's roughly a third off list. But new machines also go on sale. During big promotions, compare the remanufactured price with the current new price at an authorized retailer, not with the list price. If the gap shrinks to a small amount, the longer new-product warranty may be worth more than the difference. See when espresso machines go on sale.

Who should buy remanufactured

A remanufactured Bambino at $199.95 leaves room in the budget for a proper grinder, which matters more to the shot than a new box does. For a first espresso setup, that's a strong argument. See what $500 buys in espresso and beginner grinders.

Who should buy new

Buy new if you plan to keep the machine for many years and want the longest coverage, if it's a gift, or if a seasonal sale brings the new price close to the remanufactured one.

Avoid these "refurbished" traps

Unknown sellers

"Refurbished" can mean anything on a marketplace. Look for manufacturer or authorized-retailer certification.

No written warranty

If you can't find the warranty terms before you buy, assume there isn't one.

Missing parts

Check what's included: portafilter, baskets, tamper and jug.

No receipt

Breville's warranty requires proof of purchase. Keep the invoice.

Bottom line

A Breville Certified Remanufactured machine is a reasonable way to save around a third, as long as you buy it from Breville or an authorized seller and accept a six-month warranty. Compare it with the current new price first. Our sale-checking guide shows how.

FAQ

What warranty does a refurbished Breville have?

Breville's US Certified Remanufactured products carry a six-month limited warranty from the date of purchase, according to Breville's remanufactured warranty document. New Breville products have their own, longer limited warranty, so check the term for your model.

What is the difference between remanufactured and used?

Breville says each Certified Remanufactured unit is fully inspected, cleaned (food-contact parts sanitized), tested, has defective components replaced with original parts, and is repackaged. A used marketplace listing has none of those guarantees.

Can a refurbished Breville have scratches?

Yes. Breville says remanufactured units are 100% functional to factory specifications but may show minor cosmetic imperfections such as scratches, marks or discoloration.
