When Do Espresso Machines Go on Sale? A Calendar for Coffee Gear

Espresso machines are expensive enough that timing matters. A well-timed purchase can save real money, and a badly timed "sale" can cost you. This guide explains the retail patterns in plain terms. We don't publish made-up price histories, so treat it as a map of when to look, not a promise of a specific discount.

The short version
  • Biggest window: Black Friday through Cyber Monday (late November).
  • Mid-year window: Amazon Prime Day and competing retailer events (usually July).
  • Quiet but useful: model changeovers, refurbished stock and holiday weekends.
  • Always: compare against the list price and the recent price, not the "was" price.

This is general US retail timing, not a measured BeanTicker price history. We're starting to record retailer prices now and will publish real history only once we've recorded it.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Late November is when the most retailers run promotions at the same time, so it's the easiest time to compare offers side by side. For espresso gear that often means bundles, such as a machine with beans or accessories, as well as straight price cuts. The catch is that some "Black Friday prices" match prices seen at other times of year. Our guide on how to tell if a sale is real shows how to check.

A sale is only a sale compared with what the item usually costs, not with what the tag says it used to cost.

Prime Day and mid-year events

Amazon's member event, usually in July, has pulled other retailers into running sales the same week. If you're shopping in early summer, it's worth waiting for. One BeanTicker note: we don't collect Amazon prices, because Amazon's terms prohibit it. Compare against other retailers' prices yourself.

Model changeovers

Manufacturers update their lineups every so often. When a successor launches, retailers sometimes discount the outgoing model to clear stock. If the new model's changes don't matter to you, the older one can be the better buy. Keep an eye on manufacturer announcements and compare the spec sheets yourself.

Refurbished and open-box

Factory-refurbished units can sell below new prices all year, regardless of the season. The warranty and the seller matter more than the discount. See is a refurbished Breville worth it.

A simple buying plan

1. Know the list price

Our guides show manufacturer list prices with the date we checked them, for example the espresso under $500 board.

2. Set a target

Decide what you'd happily pay before a sale starts, so a big red banner doesn't decide for you.

3. Compare retailers

Check the same model number across several stores. Bundles can hide the real per-item price.

4. Check returns

Holiday return windows and warranty terms count as part of the deal.

Does waiting always pay?

No. If your current machine has died and you drink coffee every day, the months of café runs you'd pay for while waiting can cost more than the discount you're waiting for. Waiting makes sense when you have a working setup, flexible timing and a target price in mind. If you're buying a first machine, start with what $500 actually buys and the grinder you'll need.

Where BeanTicker fits

BeanTicker is built to answer "is this a good price?" with data. We're starting to record retailer prices from official affiliate feeds. Until we have enough history, our pages show manufacturer list prices only, clearly dated, and never invented history.

FAQ

What is the best month to buy an espresso machine?

There's no guaranteed month. November, around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, is the most widely promoted sales period in US retail, and mid-year events like Amazon Prime Day are another common window. Price-tracking data for the exact model is the best guide.

Do Breville machines go on sale?

Breville machines are often featured in retailer promotions, and Breville sells refurbished units through its own site in some regions. Discounts vary by model, retailer and year, so compare against the list price and recent prices instead of the "was" price.

Should I wait for Black Friday to buy coffee gear?

If it's mid-October and you don't need the machine urgently, waiting a few weeks is low-risk. Just don't assume every Black Friday price is a record low. Check it against the price over the previous months.
